Viet Cong

16 February

Born from the ashes of beloved art-rock band Women, Viet Cong deal in sprawling post-punk, sweet harmonies and just a dash of ’60s psychedelia. Their tour-only cassette release last year was a fizzing collection of bright, immediate tracks and rightly created a wave of interest in their debut proper, out now on Jagjaguwar. And as anyone who witnessed their packed-out, triumphant show at last year’s Le Guess Who? Festival will already know, there’s plenty of substance to all that industry hype.

This double date just went Canadian to the fullest! Absolutely Free are a three-piece delivering psychedelic pop candy to the ears. Think of the twisted rhythms of Django Django or The Feelies mixed with the natural weirdness of Animal Collective and you will get close. But still, they keep it personal and fresh by allowing their music to freely navigate among different sounds and streams.
