Berlin synth-pop duo Cape headline Klub470’s latest foray into the German music scene. Their songs are assembled from basic building blocks of bass, rhythm and melody whose precise shapes and colours are drawn from old masters like Michael Jackson, Grimes and John Maus. These musical units are shifted into superficially similar but fundamentally different configurations in an ‘endless game of permutations’ that is not only conceptually interesting, but also beautiful in its simplicity. To top the night off are the San Franciscan explorers of worlds psychic and cosmic; Sonny & the Sunsets. Albeit divergent from Cape, Sonny & the Sunsets’ brand of synthesised West Coast sound is a great match for the night’s motto of transforming synth to reach new realms.
