Juan Wauters

18 September

Proponent of the endurance of the American Dream, songwriter Juan Wauters has a narrative fit for fiction. Only a decade after moving from Uruguay to a Queens basement to save money for his family working in a factory, Wauters has struck out solo with his recent Captured Tracks release N.A.P. North-American Poerty.

Attend event:

Juan Wauters followed his father from Uruguay to New York, where they worked together in a factory to save enough money to eventually bring their family north. A decade later it’s clear that Wauters has wholeheartedly embraced his adopted hometown. He first founded influential Queens garage outfit the Beets and is now striking out on his own with slightly goofy, charmingly imperfect folk that sounds like New York’s answer to Daniel Johnston. His debut album, N.A.P. North American Poetry, goes head-to-head with Mac DeMarco’s output as the silliest and least self-conscious stuff on Captured Tracks’ roster.
