Mistaken For Strangers

10 July

Aspired rockumentary about the High Violet tour of renowned rock band The National, Mistaken for Strangers turns out to be a deeply relatable exploration of brotherly rivalry and unconditional support. Tom Berninger – younger brother/ slacker/ roadie of National frontman Matt Berninger – chronicles the tour adventures, resulting in a surprisingly honest portrait which has been christened by Pitchfork as “the funniest, most meta music movie since Spinal Tap”.

Although some might refer to it as “that movie about The National”, in reality this aspired rockumentary of The National’s High Violet tour is a sincere and hilarious account of brotherly rivarily and unconditional support. When National frontman Matt Berninger invited his metalhead/ slacker/ still stuck in Cincinnati younger brother Tom to join on tour, Tom decided to elevate his role of roadie to incognito documentary maker. Mistaken for Strangers flips the narrative of the National in revealing band dynamics, but is at its core a deeply relatable exploration of sibling relationships. According to Pitchfork “the funniest, most meta music movie since Spinal Tap”.

Screening in Melkweg Cinema, as part of their legacy of top-notch selection of music films.
