ZZZ’s are three jagged, hissing consonants from Amagasaki, Japan. They’re all-girl, but there aren’t enough R’s in ‘grrrl’ for this trio – the noise they make is a concentrated racket of razor-edged post-punk fed through a noise filter that somehow fails to dull their sharpness.

They’re all-girl, but there aren’t enough R’s in ‘grrrl’ for this trio – the noise they make is a concentrated racket of razor-edged post-punk fed through a noise filter that somehow fails to dull their sharpness. Frequent tourmates with Savages, the bands have more than gender in common, the common influences of their guitarists particularly prominent – but ZZZ’s palette is richer, and their hard knocks are often stretched out into menacing grooves that suck you in at the same time as they slice you up. Fenster are an NY-Berlin fusion duo whose dreampop incorporates bleak Americana and noisy jams.
